CARB stands for California Air Resources Board, also known as Air Resources Board (ARB). It is a department of the California Environmental Protection Agency. It was established in 1967 with the purpose of maintaining and improving air quality, and researching causes and solutions of air pollution. CARB's mandates, such as CARB 2 compliant MDF, are strict and usually are considered the standard across the United States.
What is CARB Phase 2 Compliant?
CARB Phase 1 and Phase 2 are a part of California's Composite Wood Products Regulation (CWP Regulation), which took effect in 2009 with Phase 1. The regulation has to do with reducing formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products, hardwood plywood, particleboard and medium density fiberboard (MDF). In the 2009 rollout of the CARB's Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM), formaldehyde emissions were capped at .08 parts per million (ppm). CARB Phase 2 went into effect in 2010 and has much lower formaldehyde emissions than the previous phase; set at .05 ppm. A main reason why the CARB ATCM is the strictest air quality measure is because it CAPS emissions levels. Other air quality standards are averages.

The full-overlay door style leaves roughly a 1/4" clearance on the edge. If installed directly against a wall or deeper cabinet and a cabinet door opening of at least 90 degrees is desired, scribe molding should be installed between the cabinet and the wall (or deeper cabinet). If not, the door may not be able to open a full 90 degrees. For a full opening, a space of at least 1/4-1/2" is necessary, a larger space may be needed depending on the decorative hardware used on the cabinets. The cabinet depth measurement listed is the depth from the front of the face frame to the back of the cabinet, and does not include the cabinet door depth. Schematic images and renderings are generic and may not represent exact construction details for each collection. The exact specifications for this collection can be found in the construction details listed above. |

Assembly instructions for all cabinets- schematic drawings
We love our cabinets and they’re holding up well after the first year. Fun to put together and well designed; working smoothly and with full soft return on doors and drawers. Great looking and functioning.
We love our Heather Gray Shaker cabinets and we’re very pleased with the excellent customer service we received. Our shipment was missing one piece which I thought was going to be a nightmare to deal with. Thankfully, it was the total opposite and was resolved very quickly. I would highly recommend RTA and the cabinets. They were super easy to assemble.
We built a new home on the water, the cabinets are perfect for our coastal home, but they would look fantastic in any home. We didn’t want the standard white that everyone does, but wanted something neutral, these were perfect. They are well made, solid cabinets! They look expensive, but are reasonably priced. I can’t speak to putting them together since our contractor did that for us. I would highly recommend RTA! I did use their design team and they were also wonderful to work with! The cabinets were delivered timely with no damage. The experience was great all the way around!
The color was great. Just 1 issue with the corner cabinet not really closing very well. Also for the corner cabinets that we chose the stove and dishwasher are a little too close so we have to be careful opening and closing the doors. We just have to explain that to the adult children. The microwave shelf comes out a little too far for my liking and the corner cabinet door doesn't open all the way and again, you have to be careful opening the door and not hitting the microwave shelf. Just a few things to think about when picking out the cabinets. We still have to do the backsplash but life is getting in the way so hopefully before Thanksgiving it will be done. But all in all I really like the cabinets. I would definitely recommend these cabinets and the RTA store to anyone. They went together very easy. A person that isn't mechanically inclined could put these together.
Ordering was easy, price was great, looks great and the staff was amazingly helpful.
Nothing to complain about here. I wish I would have put these cabinets in my other rooms as well!
These cabinets are beautiful and were easy to put together.
As a contractor in Alaska we usually have to deal with the big box stores or pay way to much for custom built cabinets and wait sometimes months as our resources are limited in semi rural Alaska. Even with shipping they were still by far better quality and lower price.
